Prague – The meeting of the Czech national football team at the semifinals of the playoffs for the World Cup against Sweden and a possible final with Poland will begin in Prague today. The nomination includes key striker Patrik Schick, who is still injured and has not yet played for Leverkusen. Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý also called in two newcomers, the Slavist Ondřej Lingr and the Spartan Ladislav Krejčí Jr. There are a total of 23 footballers in the selection.
The Czech team will start on March 24 in Sweden. In the final, the winner of the final five days later competed for the championship with Poland, which passed from the semifinals after Russia was expelled due to the invasion of Ukraine. The defeated semifinalist will play a preparatory duel with the winner of the match between Wales and Austria. The playoffs are only played for one match this time.
Šilhavý had great problems with the composition of the team when nominating, as he lost a number of players due to health reasons. There will be a complete defensive four from last year’s European Championships Vladimír Coufal, Ondřej Čelůstka, Tomáš Kalas and Jan Bořil. Apart from the game, Matěj Vydra, Ondřej Kúdela, Filip Novák and Petr Ševčík are also present.
