Prague – tourist: In 2022, more are expected than last year
Prague Castle is preparing for higher numbers of visitors than in 2020 and 2021. However, according to the spokesman of the Prague Castle Administration, Jan Pastor, it is waiting absence of non-European tourists. By the time the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, they had created more than half of all visitors to the Castle, Pastor added. About 2.59 million people visited Prague Castle in the pre-coronavirus year 2019, who bought a ticket to the visitor facilities, according to PCT data.
The Prague Castle Administration is gradually opened this year all visitor facilities that were closed during the coronavirus pandemic, said Pastor. For example, the exhibition The Story of Prague Castle, which it offers, will be accessible again a look into the more than millennial history of the building. Paintings from the castle collections will be on display in spare rooms in the Imperial Stables. According to the spokesman, the picture gallery is now in an unsatisfactory technical condition.
It will be open to art lovers again from this year Salm Palace on Hradčanské náměstí, where the National Gallery in Prague (NGP) is exhibiting. NGP spokeswoman Eva Sochorová told CTK. The building, which has been closed since December 2019, will open in May with the Zenga exhibition. It will present a selection from a collection of Japanese Zen ink paintings and calligraphy from the 16th to the 20th century.
Guided tours
The PCT organization, which is in charge of tourism in Prague, said a guided tour for visitors, said Malá. With a guide, those interested can look, for example, at the St. Nicholas town bell tower, where a restored wooden building will open this year. Reconstruction works, on the other hand, will affect the Old Town Hall, as the ground floor will be repaired by the Prague City Hall. According to Malá, the lift to the Petřín lookout tower will also start again. The first visitor will be able to use on April 1.
Russians are not expected …
According to estimates by PCT and Prague Airport, about four million visitors could visit Prague this year. Last year, about 14,000 Russians came to Prague, creating one percent of visitors.
