The first ten silent buses in the Budapest agglomeration are already running
The first ten electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses have been launched in the Budapest agglomeration, Budakeszi, said Dávid Vitézy, CEO of the Budapest Development Center.
The brand new, blue, low-floor electric vehicles were introduced by Volánbusz Zrt. Last August, the company put the buses into service at international events for the first time in September, and from October four vehicles operated in trial on certain bus lines in the metropolitan agglomeration. As the vehicles proved their operability during road tests, live operation began.
The scheduled start of operations was announced on Saturday morning together with the state secretaries Balázs Fürjes and Tamás Menczer, as well as Zoltán Pafféri, the chairman and CEO of Volánbusz Zrt.
The ten eCitaro will operate on the agglomeration bus lines 22, 22A, 222 and 188E to Budakeszi.
With the construction of the charging infrastructure, thirty more green buses will soon arrive in addition to the lines serving Budakeszi at 40, 40B, 40E, 88, 88A, 188, 188E, 140, 140A, 140B, 240, 172, 140B, 240, 172, 140B, 240 , 172, 173 and the Budakeszi sign 273 and the line2727 In the area of Budakeszi and Törökbálint, and also in relation to Diósd, it represents a great advance in the quality of passenger service.
The procurement is the Government’s Green Bus Program. The value of the current acquisition is HUF 8.1 billion, taking into account the ten-year shortened lifetime costs. This forty vehicle is Hungary’s largest purely electric bus fleet.
