FC Zurich defeats pursuers YB and heads for the championship title
In the top game of the 27th round of the Super League, FC Zürich YB beats 2-1 away. The jokers Kramer and Marchesano score for efficient Zurich, Sierro can only shorten shortly before the end.
Zurich’s Antonio Marchesano is celebrated by his teammates after his 2-0 win.
It’s a success that’s almost historic: It’s been almost eight years since FCZ won in the Wankdorf Stadium. But what is much more important from the Zurich side is that the lead over the Bernese has grown to an incredible 17 points this season. Now, if at all, only FC Basel can intervene in the championship race.
Berner Tor is disallowed
Even before the game it was clear that YB would probably only have a chance at the championship title if they won. After a first half, it was the Bernese who equalized in the second half in front of a full house on the first goal. The hit field – by top scorer Siebatcheu. But referee San saw Meschack Elias submitting a punishable offense.
Breitenreiter substitutes the win
It happened as it had to: André Breitenreiter literally traded in the victory of FC Zurich. In the 74th minute, midfielder Doumbia played a long pass to substitute Blaz Kramer, who was caught between the legs by Ballmoos and made it 1-0 for the guests. At 2-0, the ubiquitous Wilfried Gnonto does the great preparatory work for the veteran Antonio Marchesano. With both goals, the defense of the Bernese looks unhappy.
The Bernese reacted late: In the last minute of stoppage time, Vincent Sierro scored the consolation goal after a corner kick. Overall, FC Zürich was the more efficient team, who kept creating chances with counter-attacks. Nevertheless, a point win by the Bernese would never have been stolen.
