FC Schalke 04 welcomes Hannover 96 to their home Veltins Arena on Saturday (March 19). There are changes in the S04 starting eleven.
Gelsenkirchen – The S04 fans are excited for the upcoming FC Schalke 04 game. For the first time since March 7, 2020, a sold-out house is possible again. Every seat in the Veltins Arena can be filled again, 62,271 spectators are allowed into the stadium at short notice. More than 45,000 tickets had already been sold by Thursday morning (March 17).

Schalke 04: Lineup against Hannover without three regular defensive players
Before the game against Hannover 96, however, S04 beat the defender Malick Thiaw, who injured his knee and had to stop training on Wednesday (March 16). However, coach Mike Büskens gave the all-clear that the youngster’s performance on Saturday was not in jeopardy.
Nevertheless, FC Schalke 04 have to change their defense in the line-up against Hannover. Because three defensive regular players are missing completely, or are not yet an option for the starting eleven. One thing is clear: Marcin Kaminski will definitely not be able to play due to his fifth yellow card.
Schalke 04: Line-up against Hannover probably without Thomas Ouwejan and Salif Sané in the starting XI
They are joined by Thomas Ouwejan and Salif Sané, who have started training again but have not yet been able to complete all the exercises 100 percent. “They might be an option for the squad, but probably not for the starting XI,” said coach Mike Büskens on Thursday.
In the 3-0 win against Ingolstadt, the coach surprised with a back four on the defensive, but depending on how the game went, it could quickly become a back five. Ko Itakura acted as a six who could drop backwards in an emergency. FC Schalke 04 will probably build on the same principle in their line-up against Hannover 96.
Schalke 04: Line-up against Hannover with Marius Lode making his debut
In front of keeper Martin Fraisl, next to Malick Thiaw, new winter signing Marius Lode is likely to make his starting eleven debut. Kerim Calhanoglu plays again on the left as Ouwejan’s substitute. On the right, Henning Matriciani could be preferred to Reinhold Ranftl, who hardly convinced against Ingolstadt.
On the six, next to Ko Itakura Florian, another flick would start from the beginning. Victor Palsson would therefore be on the bench, with Schalke coach Mike Büskens saying of the Icelander: “Even without a starting eleven, he gives the team a lot of energy, which is a very good sign.”
Schalke 04: Lineup against Hannover with Rodrigo Zalazar after goal and double assist in Ingolstadt
In attacking midfield, Rodrigo Zalazar applied for the starting XI with one goal and two assists against Ingolstadt. Dominick Drexler could get another chance at the side of the Uruguayan, who is also in traffic at the bottom of the table. Darko Churlinov would have to sit on the bench for the time being.
In the storm, things are as clear as day at FC Schalke 04 against Hannover 96: Marius Bülter and Simon Terodde are considered set. The lineup of the S04 could look like this:
