CTP: The question is what do we do when the Republic of Moldova is attacked
Will Romania be attacked? Will the Republic of Moldova be attacked? These are two of the questions that Cristian Tudor Popescu has frequently received since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. The journalist explained on Friday evening, on Digi24, that unlike Romania, the Baltic countries would be much more exposed to the risk of an attack, if Moscow decided to attack NATO, although it knows this possibility is unlikely. Instead, the scenario of the Republic of Moldova being attacked by Moscow troops is much more plausible. CTP explained why and said that the most concerned question should be what Romania can do in this case.
The journalist explained why Romania is very unlikely to be one of Russia’s targets: “Romania is not a former Soviet republic – it is important, because Ukraine is. Romania does not have a Russian minority or even a Russian-speaking one. For Russia, the Baltic republics are much better suited to attack, because they have a Russian-speaking minority, they are smaller countries, more attackable than Romania. Among them, the most suitable for the attack is Lithuania, because it has its capital, Vilnius, near the Russian border. Romania is on Putin’s list. But as the Russian army is now, all that would be missing is to attack NATO by attacking Romania! ”
In the case of the Republic of Moldova, an attack by Russia would be much more plausible, and Romania will not be able to intervene militarily to help it, the journalist stressed: “Moldova could be attacked – it is not a NATO member, it has a Russian-speaking minority, they have already threatened . Russians through the embassy – as in Romania – in connection with “beware of discrimination against Russians and Russian speakers.” To prepare what? Exactly Donetsk and Lugansk! “They are oppressed, let Putin not say: we will fight for them!” So she can be attacked. The question is what do we do when the Republic of Moldova is attacked? Romania will not be able to intervene militarily to help the Republic of Moldova. He will be able to intervene with the aid sent and it would be possible for some Romanians, perhaps, to cross the border and fight for Moldova, without a military uniform, however. We will not be able to support Moldova militarily “, pointed out CTP.
The journalist says that the recent visit of President Klaus Iohannis to Chisinau is a good signal, because the Republic of Moldova now needs support from all points of view in its approach to the European Union. “It simply came to our notice then. Not the union with Romania! I don’t even want to hear about it again. At the moment, the most important thing is to support Moldova towards the European Union “, concluded Cristian Tudor Popescu.
