Yesterday late in the evening, Deggendorfer SC caused a real surprise at the playoff start of the ice hockey league: the south representative beat fourth-placed in the north group, Hannover Indians, 2:1 (1:0, 0:0, 0: 1) in overtime. The celebrated shooter was Nicolas Sauer in the 65th minute.
In front of 2572 spectators, the Donaustadters delivered a spirited fight to the Lower Saxony. After a number of players were missing from the guests – Thomas Greilinger, Ondrej Pozivil, Niklas Jentsch and Daniel Schröpfer (apparently due to Corona), plus Phillip Messing, who was still suspended – the focus was on defensive work.
But coach Jiri Ehrenberger had optimally adjusted his squad to the opponent. Despite the long journey, the guests went into the party with self-confidence, surprising the Indians again and again and probably had the better chances in the first section. The Deggendorfers scored the first goal in the only overtime game of the regular season for the DSC: After a Zitzer shot, Liam Blackburn maneuvered the puck over the line (10′).
In the middle third Hannover took over more and more the scepter, but the fourth in the Oberliga Nord failed again and again on the Deggendorfer Defensive, but especially on Timo Pielmeier, who guarded his goal very cool and sovereign. The Deggendorfers were able to keep the narrow lead up to the 54th minute, then it was Igor Bacek who was able to use a rebound to equalize 1:1. The overtime also had to decide. It was Nicolas Sauer who scored the 2-1 winner with a well-placed but certainly not unstoppable shot from long range (65′). − rr
