Alpine skiing inexperienced Switzerland beats Olympic champion Austria in mixed team competition
March 18 (Reuters) – An inexperienced Swiss team defeated Olympic champions Austria 3-1 in the final to win the parallel mixed-team alpine skiing event in Meribel, France, on Friday.

Livio Simonet, who clocked the fastest men’s time of the event with a run of 21.95 in the semifinals, prevailed over Stefan Brennsteiner.

22-year-old Janutin had competed in just two World Cup races before Friday’s final, while Simonet had three races under his belt, all of which he did not finish.
Andrea Ellenberger beat Katharina Truppe and Ricarda Haaser gave Austria their only point in the women’s by finishing ahead of Delphine Darbellay, 19, who was competing in her first World Cup race.
Germany beat Norway in the small final and finished third.
The format featured four races – two men and two women – with the competitions being decided by the two combined best times of each team if the scores were tied.
The men’s giant slalom and the women’s slalom will take place on Saturday.
