Orthodox Church in Copenhagen tagged with «Z» – Vårt Land
In Bredgade in Copenhagen is the Russian Orthodox Church Alexander Nevsky. Night to Sunday it was tagged with swastikas and pro-Russian z-symbols, writes Kristeligt Dagblad.
– I think it is crazy that this is now affecting the church, says a member, Kenneth Krohn Olsen to the newspaper.
He was one of those who came to church on Sunday, while other churchgoers were trying to remove the graffiti.
Under the Moscow Patriarchate
Alexander Nevsky Church belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCOR). It was in May 2007 was reunited with the Russian Orthodox Church under the Patriarch of Moscow in a ceremony in Moscow.
The church in Bredgade is listed, and is dedicated to Alexander Nevsky, who was the patron saint of Emperor Alexander III.
The congregation runs a fundraiser to help refugees from Ukraine. The letter Z has become a symbol of support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
