VfL Bochum: Rumor about lessons from Frankfurt’s bankruptcy and floodlight firecrackers
VfL Bochum received Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Friday evening. What striker Sebastian Polter says before the floodlight duel.
After four games without a goal Sebastian Polter back on the spot last Sunday. He beheaded it VfL Bochum against Eintracht Frankfurt in the lead, but the Revierklub still lost the game. And so the joy of Bochum’s top scorer about his eighth goal of the season was short-lived. At RS, the 30-year-old striker talks about the lessons learned from the bankruptcy in Frankfurt and the home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening (8:30 p.m., RS live ticker).
We want to put our boot on the pitch, put our stamp on the opponent and deliver a strong home game – as we have done many times this season.
Sebastian Polter
Sebastian Polter, VfL Bochum lost after a lead for the first time this season in a 2-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt. How did that happen?
Looking at the last minutes of the first half and the first minutes of the second half, I have to say that we deservedly lost. But instead of this phase we showed a strong away game and even after the goal to make it 2-1 we played what sets us apart. In the Bundesliga, every second can be crucial. This experience will make us stronger.
In the second half, VfL lacked presence in the offensive game, there was a lot of leverage. Or?
I wouldn’t say so. We played a lot of long balls, but that too is a prepared and structured means. With Pantovic’s cross at me or Locadia’s shot, we had a few actions in which we projected a goal threat. Frankfurt withdrew in the end and went into the account. As a result, our game lacked depth.
Due to Corona cases, there were professionals in the starting XI against Frankfurt who played little. That will probably be the case again against Gladbach. Does that make it harder?
We have a large squad for that. Of course, it’s important to come to your assignments regularly. Personally, I’ve always shown better performances when I’ve had a lot of match practice. And so it will be with the other guys who were left out lately.
With Gladbach comes a lot of offensive power to VfL.
Gladbach is a similar opponent as Frankfurt. Overall they are experiencing a season below expectations, with ups and downs and problems always bringing their quality to the pitch. But they undoubtedly have plenty of that, especially on the offensive. But we want to put our boots on the pitch, put our stamp on the opponent and deliver a strong home game – as we have done many times this season.
Floodlight game, 20,000 spectators are allowed. Does this scenery increase the anticipation even more?
Since I’ve been here, there’s always a very special and great atmosphere when there are spectators in our stadium. We try to absorb them independently of the opponent. We lost the first leg against Gladbach. I’m not the friend to speak of reparations. I don’t like losing to the same club twice in a season either. That’s not my goal, I want to win every game. I’m sure the team looks the same. (with GP)
