This is what we now know about the elections in Amsterdam: turnout at 6 pm with 2018, ballot box open for a few hours
Which people tuned in?
On Wednesday around 6 p.m., 34 percent of the voters in Amsterdam cast their vote: that’s 235,000 people. The turnout at this time is roughly the same as in 2018. Around 1 pm, 19 percent of the people entitled to vote in Amsterdam had voted. That percentage is also with the 2018 elections.
Not voted for the district committee, 225,000 Amsterdammers opted for the red pencil at the half-time score of 6 p.m.
The turnout in municipal elections in Amsterdam is lower than nationally. The number of voters has fallen by a large margin, as can be clearly seen in this graph.
Where can you vote?
People can cast their vote at more than five hundred places in Amsterdam and Weesp. An overview of all polling stations can be found at this site of the municipality. The site also provides information about the accessibility of each polling station and an indication of how busy it is at that time.
Do you want to cast your vote in a special place, such as the Olympic Stadium or on a city farm? These are the ten best voting locations in Amsterdam. But be aware, you can only vote for the district committee in your own district.
Until when can you vote?
Polling stations close at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
Do (corona) measures still apply at polling stations?
No, although the polling stations are set up in such a way that everyone can keep one and a half meters away. Everyone gets their own red pencil to vote and all voting locations are ventilated. All this to keep the risk of corona infection as low as possible. Risk groups are getting to vote on Monday or Tuesday, because it is quieter then.
What time is the result expected?
The provisional (final) result is expected around midnight, but this can also be later. That depends more on the number of votes that are cast. This time twice as many votes have to be counted, because both the municipal council and the district committee vote. Amsterdam is therefore urgently looking for 250 vote counters.
The votes published on Monday and Tuesday were already counted in the Rai during the day on Wednesday evening, the votes from March 16 will be added. The final determination will be made by the mayor on March 21 at 10:00 a.m.
The results will appear in this graphic as soon as they are announced:
Are there interim exit polls?
Yes. The first standings will be announced at 9 p.m., but this is only a national exit poll. The NOS will announce the exit poll in Amsterdam around 22.30 with the provisional provisional result. The provisional (final) result will be communicated when 80 percent of the votes have been counted.
What do the forecasts say?
The PvdA has a chance of becoming the largest party in Amsterdam, according to the final poll by the Research, Information and Statistics department of the municipality of Amsterdam, which was conducted among a thousand eligible voters.
The profit of the social democrats is at the expense of GroenLinks and D66, among others. According to the final poll, GroenLinks can count on 14 percent of the vote. In the previous elections this was less than 20 percent. D66 goes from 16 to 13 percent.
On the right, JA21 seems to be the big winner. The party receives about 9 percent of the vote, just like the VVD, good for about 4 to 5 seats on the council.
The Party of the Animals is also expected to receive 9 percent of the vote. Volt’s share drops from 12 to 7 percent due to internal scandals.
