City council approves 9.36 million Swiss francs for construction measures: shops in Shopville are heated with more district heating
In the future, the shops in the urban part of the Shopville shopping arcade in Zurich main station will be heated or cooled with more energy from SBB district heating pipes. The Zurich City Council has approved CHF 9.36 million for the necessary construction work.
The existing heating system reaches its limits in the cold season, as the city announced on Wednesday. A check revealed that a city-owned ecological energy supply is currently not feasible. For this reason, the city will draw 500 instead of the previous 50 kilowatt hours from the district heating lines of the SBB.
In addition, the refrigeration requirements of tenants for end devices such as circulating air coolers, which regulate the room climate, or for refrigerated shelves are constantly increasing. In order to increase the recooling capacity from 190 to 600 kilowatt hours, a new plate heat exchanger will be installed in the cooling center on the fifth basement floor.
The topic corresponds to the tightened climate protection goals for the city administration decided by the city council, as stated in the communication. By 2035, greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced to net-zero and city-owned buildings are to be powered by renewable energy. (sda)
