Prague 1 will set up a new armory for the volunteer fire brigade. It will be in Holbova Street Prague 1 | From the region Pražská Drbna
The City Hall of Prague 1 will have an architectural design study of the armory prepared for the volunteer fire brigade unit it is setting up. The decision was made by the representatives of the city district. For further preparation, they chose from the two proposed variants here in Holbova Street at the exit from the Těšnov Tunnel. The second option was a plot in Strahov, which the deputies did not recommend due to the distance from the center.
According to the management of the town hall, the new premises are insufficient for the unit that Prague 1 founded in 2011. Based on the resolution, the city council will have a study prepared, which will develop the construction in Holbova Street, and then submit it again to the council.
The town hall has already had a study mapping possible places for the construction of a new armory, which originally, according to Mayor Petr Hejma (STAN), also included other plots. In the end, the construction proved to be realistic only in Holbov near the building of the Ministry of Transport and in Strahov near Vaníčkova Street. In the case of Strahov, however, there was a problem within driving distance and also the fact that the plots are in the cadastral territory of Prague 6, so in the end the second variant won.
The construction will require a change in the zoning plan, so the construction of the armory will not begin immediately. “It’s a project that won’t take months, it’ll take a year to open the fire station,” said Hejma. However, the management of the town hall wants to make a final decision ideally in this election period. The city district could receive a European subsidy for the construction.
Volunteer firefighters intervene not only to extinguish fires, but also, for example, during floods, when they help with the evacuation of residents, pumping water or repairing damage. According to earlier information, there are 24 units of volunteer firefighters in Prague, which are for interventions throughout the city. Another 14 units are set aside only for the given city district. The units set up the municipality and depend on its budget. The village owns all the equipment. The commander is in charge of the mayor. There are over 2,500 volunteer firefighters in Prague.
