How much has the Moldovan government spent so far on managing the refugee crisis in Ukraine. The maintenance of a refugee hosted by one of the 96 temporary placement centers costs 130 lei per day
The authorities in Chisinau do not yet have an exact calculation of the money allocated for the management of the refugee crisis in Ukraine, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița said today. At the same time, the maintenance of a refugee in the 96 temporary placement centers opened in the Republic of Moldova costs 130 lei per day, mentioned the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Marcel Spătaru.
“Some estimates have been made based on the experience of the countries, but we do not have preliminary calculations yet. We have also adopted certain regulations that provide for limited spending in placement centers. But here we have to see the total costs for society, to mobilize everyone, not just the Government. It was an effort of unity and solidarity, which brought the fame of the Republic of Moldova all over the world. Now we count… We allocate funds, but the reporting comes with a certain delay. We will come with information about the costs when this report will be made “, said Natalia Gavrilița.
The Prime Minister of the Guided Line is working to ensure that certain international organizations bear certain costs in managing the flow of refugees. “In particular, we are talking about food, about certain programs to help refugees or their host families. We are in the process of transferring some expenses to the specialized international institutions “, added the quoted source.
In the same context, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Marcel Spătaru, mentioned that it is not a special account for refugees, and for this reason it is difficult to say how much Moldova has spent since February 24 and until now.
“There were donations from economic agents, individuals, including from other states. Part of this money has been allocated to local public authorities, including Chisinau. This money will cover expenses incurred on February 24, when the first refugees arrived. If the documents are accompanied by facts, they are justified, then they will be covered by this fund. Based on the estimates of expenses presented at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, we estimate that the daily maintenance of a refugee in the placement centers is around 130 lei. But we are talking strictly about the maintenance of a refugee in a placement center. But Moldova also has other indirect costs. It is about the personnel involved with the management of the refugee crisis at the border and inside the republic, it is about the transport expenses, etc. ”, concluded Spătaru.
Currently, there are about 100,000 refugees on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Around 5,000 refugees are in the 96 temporary placement centers, which can accommodate up to 9,000 refugees.
