Prague – The government has approved the supply of additional military equipment for Ukraine, said Vít Rakušan (STAN), Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister. The Ministry of Defense Jana Černochová (ODS) said on Czech Television on Sunday that the Czech Republic would provide Ukraine with additional material worth more than 700 million crowns, and told reporters on Tuesday that it was going to donate material worth up to a billion. The Austrian refused to specify the value.
“The government without further specification today approved further assistance in providing military material to the Ukrainian side,” the Austrian said. “The government’s actions were in a regime that requires a degree of confidentiality of information. It is only a signal that it is helping to continue. The financial coverage of the aid is also being discussed at the international level,” the deputy prime minister added.
The Ministry of Defense has already sent military aid to Ukraine, which is defending Russia’s aggression, for about 750 million crowns. These were ammunition, submachine guns, machine guns, sniper rifles or S-2 anti-aircraft missiles. For security reasons, the Office did not specify the form of the donations.
At the same time, weapons are flowing to Ukraine from the Czech Republic thanks to donations to the account of the Ukrainian embassy, to which people and companies sent about 700 million crowns, according to the square of the Ministry of Defense. The embassy buys weapons for the money collected, and the embassy assists the Ministry of Defense in acquiring them.
The Czechia demanded that the European Union pay some military donations. The Union has released EUR 500 million (approximately CZK 12.3 billion) for these purposes. Deputy Minister of Defense Daniel Blažkovec told reporters on Tuesday.
