We will notice this from a ‘big crop’ of Sahara dust drifting to the Netherlands | Inland
A layer of dust can settle on cars and garden furniture. In the coming days, precipitation in the Alpine countries could also cause red ski slopes. In our own country, we can expect a few showers on Wednesday. Rain will fall in more places during the night to Thursday. Thursday morning we can expect a layer of dust. It is difficult to predict exactly how thick the layer of dust will be.
The Sahara sand comes with the supply of soft air from the south. A depression in the Mediterranean causes strong winds in parts of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Dust from the Earth’s Sahara is thus set in motion and ends up higher in the atmosphere. It is then followed with the international flow towards the Netherlands and other parts of Northern Europe.
‘Intense red glow’
“The dust particles scatter the sunlight. The sky can even turn yellowish. Due to the collision of the sun’s rays with the dust, the sun causes power and the maximum temperature drops a few degrees when there is a lot of Sahara dust in the air. The sunlight is also scattered during sunrise and sunset, producing an intense red and orange glow in the sky,” said Knol.
In the south of Spain – including Alicante and Murcia – part of the Sahara dust has come down, according to the current BBC the landscape is somewhat like Mars.
