Three men were arrested on Monday March 14 in Dourges, near Lens, report France Blue North. An investigation carried out by the Béthune public prosecutor’s office over four months shows that they are suspected of having stolen more than 150,000 euros in fuel by stealing supply cards from road transport companies. Among the three men arrested, a father and his son aged 42 and 20, belonging to the Traveler community.
France Bleu Nord specifies that most trucks have fuel cards to use during the week, but they do not drive on weekends. The three men are suspected of having stolen these cards directly from the trucks on Friday evening, to go and fill up fraudulently.
The police officers of the departmental security automobile group have been on their trail since December, adds France Bleu. They were alerted by carrier companies throughout the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions, which suffered significant damage as a result of these card thefts. The three suspects are already known to the police, specifies France Bleu. A search was carried out in their camp in the North on Monday morning. In particular, new Volkswagen vans were discovered.
