The Prague leadership is asking the state to create a system for accommodating refugees in the regions
The leadership of the capital demands that the state create a clear system of accommodation for Ukrainian refugees in individual regions. The reason is insufficient capacity in Prague. The city also wants a central information system to which all departments, including local governments or non-profit organizations, should have access. At the same time, it is necessary to increase the housing allowance and introduce contributions for private property owners. The mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), his deputy Petr Hlubuček (STAN) and the director of the Prague fire brigade Luděk Prudil told the press. The Assistance Center for Prague and the Central Bohemian Region in the Prague Congress Center (KCP) has handled over 36,000 refugees since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. “The state must take on its roles. We are not able to provide a relocation mechanism (a system of deploying refugees to the regions), nor are we able to address a shared information system for legislative reasons. These are objective facts we face and must be resolved by the state, Prague has the biggest problem with accommodation and the distribution of refugees to other regions. Some refugees have to spend the night on benches in the KCP before accommodation can be found for them. Some wait for housing for more than 24 hours.
