World Cup 3X3 in Antwerp in danger for Nick Celis: captain of the Belgian team during serious injuries
Bad news for Nick Celis: the captain of the 3×3 Lions has suffered a knee injury at his club Oxaco (Top Division 1). There is a chance that Celis will miss the 3×3 World Cup, which will be held in his home city of Antwerp in June. “Today I’m going for a check-up, but I’m afraid of a torn cruciate ligament,” said the captain of the 3X3 Lions and Team Antwerp.
In addition to 3×3, Nick Celis is also active in classic 5X5 basketball at the Antwerp second division team Oxaco. Celis suffered a serious knee injury on Saturday evening after an unfavorable contact during the won match. “I fear a ruptured cruciate ligament,” says Celis, who will be further examined today.
Celis’ injury is a blow for Team Antwerp, the best Belgian 3×3 team that is 4th in the world ranking and one of the strongest teams in the 3×3 circuit. Thierry Mariën is also sidelined with a shoulder injury. “Next weekend we will start the season with Team Antwerp again and we will go to Zurich, Switzerland. Yes, with the preparation for the World Cup in mind, an injury cannot come at a worse time.”
Also for the 3×3 Lions, the failure of Celis is a serious blow through the bill. Celis is the captain and the driving force behind the team and is currently 5th in the world ranking in 3×3 basketball. The World Cup will take place in Antwerp from 21 to 26 June, precisely in the home city of Antwerp of Nick Celis.
