What a battle in Siena for Cuneo

Good start for Cuneo (1-3) then Siena recovers and draws at 4th point. The Cuneo players extend 7-9, but some mistakes and the hosts with Parodi are back in a draw. Excellent performance by Bisotto who recovers, raises for Preti who finds the 10th point for the biancoblù.
The game continues point by point at PalaEstra. On 16-17 coach Montagnani calls the first time out of the evening, after which the ace of Parodi and the Sienese who go to 19-17, force coach Serniotti to follow his colleague and call his team back. At 20-17 Tallone enters for Preti in reception; still serving Parodi. To interrupt the positive turn of the hitter, former Cuneo, is the Brazilian opposite Wagner Pereira Da Silva on 21-18. Well they bring Tallone’s hands out and Codarin’s block on Onwuelo, which Siena to exhaust the time outs available on 21-20. With his turn to serve Wagner accompanies the biancoblù forward (21-22), but the colleague in the role recovers.
Panciocco finds the first set ball for Siena, but Captain Botto hits hard on the opponent’s wall and cancels it (24-24). From nine meters Codarin, then two walls of Botto and is 24-26 at PalaEstra, with Cuneo ahead of one to zero.
Cuneo keeps Tallone in the septet The second set starts fighting again, then Siena extends 5-3 with Mattei’s ace. Still serving, this time from Onwuelo, Siena finds the extension (8-4) and coach Serniotti calls the time out. The hosts take off (13-6), Captain Botto’s pipe interrupts Rossi’s turn to serve and sends Sighinolfi from nine meters, who finds the ace of 13-9. At 17-10 it is time out for the Cuneo players. On 19-11 debut for Roberto Trinchero who takes the place of Filippi to direct for Cuneo.
On 11-20 coach Serniotti calls the video check, which confirms the IN for Siena. Botto changes the ball, Codarin serves, Wagner does well to sell his skin dearly (21-14). Another time out for Cuneo, then the Siena block on Tallone is worth the set ball for the hosts (24-16). Enter Priests by Tallone. Siena according to the set 25-16.
Little to say about the third set; Siena literally puts Cuneo under service with Pinelli first and then Panciocco. Simone Parodi on the shields and on coach Serniotti’s 14-9 runs out of time outs. On 18-11 Cardona enters for Wagner, and then returns to 23-17. The Onwuelo set closes on 25-17.
We return to the field and it is Panciocco who finds the first point, followed by Rossi who scores the ace of 2-0. The wall on Sighinolfi and Rainero enters the center (3-0). Cuneo gnaws a few points, thanks also to errors in the service of the Sienese (6-4). Preti’s ace scores 6 equal to PalaEstra, but immediately after the new serve is out and Onwuelo climbs from nine meters. The Cuneo players remain attacked with Wagner beating hard on the wall (9-8) and sending Filippi to the bar. A good choral response from Cuneo who drew again (9-9). On 10-9 Sighinolfi returns to the center in the ranks of Cuneo. We fight on every ball, on 15-14 he enters Tallone for Botto, then after the ace of Preti that is worth the overtaking of the Cuneo on 15-16, coach Montagnani calls the time out.
Onwuelo’s attack and on 17-16 it is coach Serniotti who calls his team back. Excellent hands out for Tallone who sends Filippi to serve on 19 equal; Lilli per Preti enters in the back circle. Onwuelo brings the hands out on Tallone and Preti returns to 20 all. Time out for Cuneo on 22-21 which bears fruit and on 22-23 is also requested by Siena. Agitated action, then Preti’s attack diagonally and it’s set ball for Cuneo (22-24), and it is the wall hitter himself who closes the set and sends the verdict to the tie-break (22-25).
Siena starts ahead, then Onwuelo misses the serve and passes the ball to Wagner from nine meters (4-3). Parodi’s experience puts the Cuneo defense in difficulty and goes to serve. Long and hard-fought action, then Panciocco diagonally touches the biancoblù wall and is 6-3. Codarin takes the ball back with an excellent first half, good agreement with Filippi. Another ace for Preti who is worth the 6 all and in the Sienese ranks enters Ottaviani for Panciocco.
On 6-7 coach Montagnani calls the time out. Siena recovers and Botto enters Preti’s place for Cuneo. Codarin’s attack is out and the field is changed to 8-7. Wagner finds 9 even if coach Montagnani has asked for confirmation of the video check. After two questionable referees the score at PalaEstra is 11-9 and coach Serniotti calls the time out. With heart, Cuneo is back under 12-11 with Tallone serving and Wagner in attack. The entire Cuneo team works, Sighinolfi’s wall is 12 even! Tallone’s joke is out and Mattei puts down the ace of 14-12. Out of the Sienese attack and from nine meters Sighinolfi goes (14-13). The closing Onwuelo 15-13.
At the end of the meeting the coach Roberto Serniotti: «I am proud of how we fought today despite the physical problems of the two lifters. Without ever giving up, we got to play evenly in the fifth set, then they did well and found important jokes. Anyway, congratulations also to Siena for how they are playing in the most important moment of the season“.
