Gifts, inaugurations and important acquisitions yesterday at the Vittoriale, for Gabriele d’Annunzio’s birthday party. “Precious”, in the words of President Giordano Bruno Guerri, the gift of the Cab Foundation, delivered by Agostino Mantovani and Giovanni Trerotola representing the president Italo Folonari. A gift that has a history that starts from afar.
Exclusive acts
It was 1987 when the Cab Foundation acquired Christie’s London auction the manuscripts of seven D’Annunzio masterpieces: The Contemplation of death, The Gospel according to the adversary, The Virgins of the Rocks, Life of Cola di Rienzo, The iron, Dream of an autumn sunset and Dream of a spring morning. To make the precious manuscripts available to the public of scholars and enthusiasts, the CAB Foundation had wonderful facsimile editions created that combined the accuracy of the manuscripts reproduced inside, the beauty of the typographic appearance and the external elegance. In 2009 the CAB Foundation decided to deposit the original manuscripts, up to that moment kept in the bank vault, in the Vittoriale archives, placing them in the availability of the scientific community. Now Ubi Fondazione Cab has generously decided to donate the entire collection of facsimile editions to the D’Annunzio Vittoriale Foundation, consisting of more than a thousand copies. “We will use them – says Guerri – partly for sale, partly for institutional gifts”.
The exhibitions
From the written word to art. The Vittoriale has the honor of hosting Umberto Boccioni’s futuristic masterpiece “Unique forms of continuity in space”, and other works by Umberto Mastroianni, Anselmo Bucci, who was a friend of Boccioni, and Ortensio Zecchino until 11 September. Among the new acquisitions there is also the full-bodied unpublished correspondence of the Vate with Giuseppe Brezzithe engineer who I change the SVA 5 aircraft into a two-seater to allow d’Annunzio to participate in the flight to Vienna. The original plane was damaged in one landing and hence the need to build a second one. «Fundamental documents – says Guerri – for reconstruct the history of the birth of our aviation“.
There are also many projects announced, in the name of “innovation and continuity in time and space, because this is how we like it and that is how it should be”, says Guerri. The party was attended by numerous authorities, from the new prefect Maria Rosaria Laganà to the regional councilor Stefano Bruno Galli. In the morning, however, President Guerri had guided Matteo Renzi, who had come to Gardone for a private visit to the Vittoriale.
