Toulouse: commentary Lydie manages 34 hectares of vineyards
As part of the Salon des Vins & Terroir, Lydie Brunet, winemaker in Cahors, details her activity.
In 2006, Lydie Brunet took over the family vineyard of Chantelle, in Cahors. “It’s an area of 34 hectares around the vine but we also produce fruit and some medicinal plants including chamomile transformed into organic essential oils”.
Lydie takes over after her mother-in-law: “More and more women are winegrowers today. They often represent the family farm but few buy a vineyard. It is a physically difficult activity. But it is above all the commercial and administrative part that is very cumbersome. Did you know that the vine sector is the one that requires the most declarations?. Monthly declaration of wine and capsule releases, that of the harvest, or even of the inventory or of the AOC (appellation d’origine contrôlée)”.
On the Chantelle estate, 34 hectares of Cahors wines are produced, ten of which are AOC, the rest being red and rosé local wine from the Lot. The estate works in particular with large structures (export and mass distribution) and also sells AOC appellation and bulk wine from the cellar to individuals. “We also have good demand for the Malbec grape variety.” Fifteen-year-old Lydie is a regular at the Salon des Vins & Terroirs: “It’s an excellent commercial showcase that attracts customers from Toulouse and the surrounding area. The covid, the change of site of the show have been there. The fall show was mixed. People have to find a rhythm of life”.
Wine & Terroir fairs, until March 13 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Meett (Avenue de la Concorde) in Aussonne. free car park with 3000 spaces.
