Eintracht soccer players dream of the Champions League | hessenschau.de
The soccer players from Eintracht Frankfurt have recently scored important points in the Bundesliga. Before the final phase of the season, coach Niko Arnautis’ team can now dream of the Champions League.
Eintracht coach Niko Arnautis is the type of quiet connoisseur – this also and above all applies to sporting success. “We don’t have to talk about it now, we just have to enjoy the day and have a beer,” the coach told hr-sport after the 3-2 win against TSG Hoffenheim last week. Arnautis had promised he would spend the beer. The occasion was not just the three points against Hoffenheim, but the coach’s 100th game on the sidelines.

Maybe there was another cold drink for the Eintracht footballers and coach when looking at the table – after all, the team is now level on points with TSG. Although the competition in third place and Eintracht in fourth place are still separated by goal difference, the dream of qualifying for the Champions League is within reach. “What the team is pulling off this year is phenomenal,” said Arnautis.
Seven games left: “We’re just happy”
Because last season things looked very different for the Frankfurt team with seven games to go: the team was bobbing around in the middle of the table, also known as no man’s land, and probably not even the boldest optimists dreamed of the Champions League. “We were so far away last year,” the coach also recalled. And now? “Now we have seven games left and we’re just happy.”
The joy is entirely on the part of the team, which has since grown together. “The team is capable of playing and beating anyone,” said Arnautis. On Sunday (1 p.m.) SGS Essen is waiting in the home stadium at Brentanobad. “We’re expecting a young team, supplemented by a few experienced players who want to play football. They’re particularly dangerous in the transition game, and we have to stop that.” The goal is also clear for the coach: “The will to get further up the table is incredibly strong.”
“We have the dream”
With a win, the Frankfurt women could settle right there – on top of that on or close to a Champions League qualification place. “We have the dream. Whether it’s this year or next, we’ll see,” revealed Arnautis. He also talks about dreams, the coach of the Frankfurt women. What counts for the next few weeks is: “The way is right. It’s just great fun.” And maybe even dreams can come true.
