Rath took up prison services. As a doctor, he will alternate between Brno and Prague
“I work as a general practitioner in the Brno remand prison and from April I should alternate this place with the surgery in the remand prison in Pankrác. As an employee of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic, I cannot say anything else about that, because I am not allowed to do so. Only a speaker can talk about anything else and in more detail, “said Rath to iDNEs.cz.
The iDNES.cz editorial office therefore also contacted the prison service. Its spokeswoman Markéta Prunerová stated that the Prison Service of the Czech Republic has two hospitals, namely the remand prison and Brno and Prague-Pankrác.
“Dr. David Rath is currently working on an agreement on work activities at the medical center at the prison hospital in Brno, from next month he will also be working at the medical center at the Pankrác prison hospital,” Prunerová confirmed to iDNES.cz.
At the same time, she emphasizes that this is a job. “The cooperation was concluded without a time limit,” the prison service spokeswoman added, noting that, like Rath, she was remunerated for her work. “I’m not even competent to know her, let alone communicate her,” she added.
David Rath spent three and a half years behind bars, half the court sentenced for corruption. Since entering prison, he has been interested in the possibility of ordaining behind bars, which was fulfilled during the covid epidemic.
However, after his release on January 11, 2022, cooperation with the prison did not end. “As for my work in the prison, I can only express myself in the sense that I work as a general practitioner in the Brno remand prison two days a week,” Rath, who became an ombudsman of the Union after his release from prison, told iDNES.cz patients for the Central Bohemian Region and Prague, and in January he also stated that he wanted to work in the surgery in Hostivice.
The case of David RathRatha was arrested by police in May 2012 with a $ 7 million bribe in a wine box. The Prague High Court later acknowledged Rath’s guilt in influencing tenders for the reconstruction of Buštěhrad Castle in the Kladno region. In this so-called first branch of the case, Rath received a seven-year prison sentence, as well as a ten-million fine and a ban on activities, for gaining an advantage in awarding a public contract and damaging the EU’s financial interests. So far, he has paid about half of the amount. The verdict in this branch of the corruption case around Rath last year was upheld by the Supreme Court, which rejected all appeals. In the second branch of the case, the Regional Court in Prague illegally extended Rath’s sentence for another year. According to the senate, another eight defendants and nine companies, including the construction company Metrostav, also committed crimes related to medical contracts in the region. The second branch will only be dealt with by the High Court of Appeal in April. Source: CTK |
