Highly skilled migrant wants to stay in the Netherlands
Report “The current state of mind of the highly skilled migrant in the Netherlands”
In the report “The current state of mind of the highly skilled migrant in the Netherlands”, Ravecruitment and Intelligence Group paints a picture of how the highly skilled migrant currently works in the Netherlands and what the expectations are in the near future.
Economic interest
Many organisations, both corporates and startups and scale-ups, consider foreign talent to be of crucial importance for international competitiveness and growth (source: Ministry of Economic Affairs).
“However, not much is known about this foreign talent in the Netherlands,” said Gijs Notté, director of Ravecruitment. “Do people find living here attractive? Do they see career opportunities here? Do they want to stay here? This study answers these questions and is therefore interesting for organizations that work or want to work with highly skilled migrants. It appears that a large proportion of highly skilled migrants would like to stay here .”
This finding is in stark contrast to an earlier 2014 study by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) which showed that half of the knowledge workers who entered the Netherlands since 2000 had already left the Netherlands after eight years.
This is above all a permanent asset to bring more balance to the labor market, growth of the organization and economic development, growth of the organization and diversity and stability of the workforce,” said Notté.
research
80% of the highly skilled migrants outside the EU therefore indicate that they wish to apply for a Dutch passport. This is mainly based on the fact that 90% consider the Netherlands a safe country. Furthermore, 80% feel welcome in the current organization and 78% see sufficient career opportunities in the Netherlands to realize their ambitions. The Netherlands is then given a more than satisfactory (8+) on the question of men who would recommend the Netherlands as a country of residence/work.
“The research offers interesting interests,” said Geert-Jan Waasdorp, director of Intelligence Group. Only 25% of this last group indicate that they want to settle permanently in the Netherlands. Some, 79%, are well satisfied with their salary in the Netherlands. Here we see major differences with other countries in the EU,” said Waasdorp. “That makes the Netherlands attractive for these European labor migrants as well.”
