Blocked in Calais by the British government, Ukrainians leave for Tourcoing and Arras
Several dozen Ukrainian refugees stranded in Calais, unable to go across the Channel, have just left this Wednesday, March 9 to Tourcoing (Nord) and Arras (Pas-de-Calais), where the regional prefecture undertakes to accommodate and support them. In recent days, they have been staying at the youth hostel in Calais, which has only 140 places.
The regional prefecture confirms the departure of 75 Ukrainian refugees for the Lille metropolis, in Tourcoing, this Wednesday, as well as the transfer of other refugees to Arras. They will be fully supported, accompanied and accommodated through state operators. It ensures that “all the prefectures of the Hauts-de-France region, on the instructions of the Ministry of the Interior, are mobilized” and does not exclude other transfers of the same kind in the days to come.
This transfer comes as London confirms the opening in Lille, this Thursday, March 10, of a new visa application center. This will be reserved for people who have been sent there by the British Border Police. Requests must first be made to the usual services, in particular in Paris and Brussels.
