“I managed to return the balloons well and I showed one of my best performances. It’s great that after thirteen years, I’m taking the victory to Ostrava, “Solnický rejoiced. Before him, Pavel Sládeček succeeded in 2009.
Solnický was one step away from the title three times, but before that he failed in either final. It only succeeded this year. “Finally, the incredible amount of training paid off,” Solnický smiled. He has already achieved his first goal in the form of a Czech title, now he would like to score more in PSA tournaments to move up the world rankings. “The last time I took part in a foreign event was in December in Ostrava. Nothing has happened since then, especially tournaments for categories of players from 50th place onwards, “lamented Solnický.

However, the world squash carousel is not stuck, prestigious events for the top elite players are still taking place. “But I don’t have enough points to attend. Yes, sometimes a playable tournament is made for me, but maybe only one in the USA. However, it is not economically advantageous for me to play one tournament in America, “added Solnický. He earned mainly on leagues, for example in Poland or Germany. “So I didn’t get out of the match practice.”
Ostrava squash player Viktor Byrtus reached the bronze last year, but lost in the battle for 3rd place to his club colleague Jakub Solnický. He defeated Marek Panáček in the last match this year. “I finally have the first medal. I showed probably the best match at the championship, I felt good, “said Byrtus, who was fifth in 2020, fourth last year and now third. “I’m glad it’s upward, I’d like to play the finals next year,” Byrtus said.

Anna Serme continues to rule women’s squash here. On the way to the fourth gold, the Opava native did not lose even a hundred, she clearly defeated Tereza Svobodová in the final. “I am glad that I caught up with Mekbiba, who also has four titles. I would like to have five or six of them, but I do not give a specific goal, “said Serme after the fourth overall triumph at the domestic championships and the third in a row.
“I focus mainly on the PSA world rankings, where I would like to be the best Czech in history,” smiled Serme, a native of Opava who lives and trains in France. At present, it holds the 38th place in the world rankings and four places are already missing at the Czech maximum.
