Pretty unusual, this picture for Hesse’s students: the classmates sit next to you WITHOUT mouth and nose protection, you can even see if the classmate is smiling. Since March 7th, the obligation to wear masks in lessons on the square in Hessen schools has been abolished. How this changes the everyday life of the students at a Frankfurt school – in the video!
Virologist striker: Previous easing was too early
The Hessian state government is relaxing the Corona rules: Since March 4, gastronomy has been allowed to continue to open with a 3G regulation. Bars and nightclubs open their doors under 2G+. And all this despite the fact that the incidence has increased slightly again. Martin Stürmer, virologist from Hesse, warns his state and Germany against further premature actions: “The right time is crucial. We relaxed the restrictions at a time when the infection rate is still very high. And that’s something that’s on our feet now.”
Parents and students are also critical
Many parents, teachers and students are also very critical of the way masks are used in the classroom. “We didn’t expect it because the events are still so high. But everyone has to wear the mask quickly,” reports Gerrit Ulmke, director of the Helmholtz-Gymnasium in Frankfurt, in the RTL interview.
Students are acting out of habit or fear of another surge in infections – and are sticking to the mask. The voluntary wearing of the mask is very sensible for the students, says Kerstin Lünenbürger. She is involved in a parent initiative. Her goal: better corona protection in schools is needed because many young people are not yet vaccinated. This also includes a mask requirement for the mother and also air filters.
