Pro-Russian socialists in Moldova file bill on “permanent neutrality”
A pro-Russian election in Chisinau, made up of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, BCS, on Monday tabled a bill calling for the stability of Moldova’s permanent neutrality, although Moldova’s military neutrality is already enshrined in the Constitution.
“This project reinforces the constitutional principle of permanent neutrality. It is not a political or ideological one and does not come in the context of developments in the neighboring country. It is a project that has been discussed for a long time in the Republic of Moldova and comes to ensure a clear and functional set of mechanisms to fulfill these provisions, which are contained in the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, and which is called neutrality “, explained PSRM Vice President Vlad The old man.
Bătrîncea tried to deny the synchronization of his legislative initiative with the war in Ukraine.
He explained that the current legislation does not stipulate the role and presence of foreign forces in the Republic of Moldova, although the Republic of Moldova has on its territory for 30 years as a military presence Russian troops divided into “peacekeepers”, which are legally mandated and the Group . Operative of the Russian Troops (GOTR) whose role is to guard the Soviet ammunition from the Cobasna depot, without having a legal basis to be on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The Socialists also question the presence of the Moldovan military in international peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the UN. The Republic of Moldova has participated for several years with dozens of soldiers to take into account the peacekeeping in Bosnia and they are preparing to send this year the military to Lebanon for the same peace mission.
In fact, the head of US diplomacy, Anthony Blinken, who visited the Republic of Moldova on Sunday, mentioned that the USA supports the sovereignty, territorial integrity, but also the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova.
Blinken also said that in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, that Moscow’s military action is a violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and expressed support for the sovereignty and integrity of all states, including Moldova.
“Countries have the right to choose their own future. The Republic of Moldova has chosen democracy, the rule of law and a closer relationship with the EU. We support this, including the status of neutrality. ” Blinken said in a joint conference in Chisinau with Head of State Maia Sandu.
PSRM on the same wavelength as Tiraspol
Pro-Russian political forces have been active in Chisinau in the past, when the PSRM called for a referendum on Moldova’s EU accession, although pro-European forces marching on a clear European integration program for Chisinau have won. . in July 2021 the absolute majority of 63 seats out of 101 in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
The position of the PSRM was last Friday in unison with that of the separatist regime in Tiraspol, which stated that Tiraspol was not consulted for the request submitted on Thursday by President Maia Sandu for EU membership and that for this reason it breaks all negotiations on the Transnistrian file and demands . international recognition of Transnistria.
“The decision of the Moldovan authorities means the willingness to transfer the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova to the supranational bodies in Brussels and the transition to the final military-political and economic development of the territory of the Republic of Moldova by the West,” said the separatist regime in Tiraspol.
The Tiraspol separatist regime he asked the international community to recognize its statehood.
“At the same time, we appeal to the United Nations, to the OSCE, to the mediators and observers in the application process, to the international community as a whole with an acknowledgment of the reality that has existed for more than thirty years in Transnistria. The Republic of Moldova must ensure the observance of the right of the “Transnistrian chicken” to self-determination and establish the diplomatic relationship with Transnistria “, said a statement from alleged Transnistrian diplomats.
In the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Tiraspol regime has stated that it will not intervene militarily and that the situation in Tiraspol is calm. Instead, a series of protests took place in Tiraspol against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which the Tiraspol regime did not forcefully repress, as it used to do now.
Ukraine has repeatedly accused the preparation or even launching of rockets from Transnistria, but the information has been refuted by Chisinau authorities, who are closely monitoring the situation.
