There is over a meter of snow in the mountains. The ski resorts are full, spring holidays are beginning in Prague
There is still over a meter of snow in the mountains in the Czech Republic, and thanks to the cold weather, the skiing conditions are good. Therefore, the ski resorts are usually not going to close yet. This follows from information from ČTK from the center operators. An exception is Vysočina, where attendance of the areas is below average, so they are considering ending the season.
The ski resorts above report ideal snow conditions. The high attendance also results from the fact that the schoolchildren from Prague 1 to 5 started the spring holidays, and the next week they will be replaced by pupils and students from Prague 6 to 10.
For example, around 14,000 people went to the Černá hora-Pec Ski Resort in the Giant Mountains over the weekend. “It is skied on 50 kilometers of slopes, there is night skiing daily, the Montenegrin toboggan run is open. Even the cross-country trails around the resort are groomed.
“The conditions for skiing are excellent,” said Vít Pražák, director of the ski resort in Rokytnice nad Jizerou in the Krkonoše Mountains. More than 2,200 people skied there on Saturday and today. “This is a pretty decent visit,” he added. A similar number of people skied on the weekend in nearby Paseky nad Jizerou.
The areas in the Jizera Mountains are also satisfied with the number of visitors. “Every day we have 3,500 people continuously throughout the week,” said Pavel Bažant, director of Ski bižu, which operates the three largest resorts in the Jizera Mountains – Tanvaldský Špičák, Severák and Bedřichov. The favorable weather forecast for skiing is also next week and the attendance probably increases the spring holidays.
Also in the ski resort Buková hora in the Orlické Mountains, where there is up to a meter of snow, they help to increase the number of holidays. “Thanks to the spring holidays, the number of visitors is higher, around 2,000 people per weekend,” said Petr Toman, a spokesman for the complex. The weather is cold in the mountains and the snow on the slopes holds. Toman hopes that the season in Beech Mountain will last until the end of March.
The resorts in Šumava also praise the number of visitors and conditions. “The conditions for downhill skiing are excellent, the weekend visit was above average. We had 1,200 to 1,300 skiers a day,” said Petr Vondraš on behalf of the center in Zadov. The ski resort has not yet decided when the season will end. Lipno Ski Resort also does not plan an exact end of the season. “I think there will still be interest from people. We will rather decide according to the weather and skiing conditions,” said Olga Kneiflová on behalf of the resort.
For example, in the Pardubice region, the season ended in February in the Peklák and Přívrat areas of the Orlické Ústí region, and skiing continues in Hlinsko in the Chrudim region, for example. Even the ski resorts in the Vysočina region, which are still in operation, are considering ending the season. “We have unprecedented good conditions for this time of year, but attendance is below average. If conditions allow, we will last until March 19, but then we may end the season,” said Karel Klapač behind the Harusův kopec ski slope in Nové Město na Moravě. “We will keep the same next week. But from Monday, March 14, we might just switch to afternoon skiing,” said Jiří Pálka from the Fajtův kopec area.
