“Romania is our anchor in Europe”
Nicu Popescu spoke on Antena 3, in an exclusive interview with Sabrina Preda and Sergiu Cora, producers of News Hour with CNN, about the war in Ukraine and what are its effects on the Republic of Moldova.
“It simply came to our notice then. The situation is for our country, for the whole of Europe. I do not know if, today, any European European feels safe on our continent, given that one of the largest European states has been approved absolutely unmotivated. (…) We are not directly targeted, but we have a total, absolute obligation to prepare our country for absolutely any scenario.
We can’t speculate, we can’t make predictions, but, at the same time, we are obliged to be ready for absolutely anything “, said Nicu Popescu.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova then spoke about the steps to join the European Union and specified that Romania is the “anchor” of the Republic of Moldova.
“We said from the first day of this government, but also from the first day of the term of office of the President (no – Maia Sandu) that Romania is by far the most important partner for the Republic of Moldova, not only diplomatically, but also in terms of transforming our countries, modernizing, Europeanizing the Republic of Moldova.
From the first day we felt this support and solidarity of Romania and the citizens of Romania with us. For us, obviously, Romania is still ours in Europe, it is still our linguistic, historical, identity in the European space and, from the first days of our mandate, we did everything to attach the Republic of Moldova to the European space together and together with Romania “, said Nicu Popescu.
