Antony Blinken promises all US support for the Republic of Moldova
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is visiting the Republic of Moldova on Sunday as part of a larger tour of Eastern Europe following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The senior US diplomat said that many countries are making great efforts to help Ukrainian refugees, but “the biggest burden for neighboring countries”, assuring that the US will support Chisinau to be able to handle this difficult situation.
“In the 30 years since the stability of diplomatic relations between the United States and Rep. Moldova has never faced such an urgent moment, with today’s challenges. Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine has triggered a humanitarian crisis that is already having a huge impact in the area, including Moldova, “said the US Secretary of State in Chisinau.
On Sunday, Antony Blinken praised the leaders of the Republic of Moldova for receiving refugees from Ukraine. An estimated 240,000 people from Ukraine have crossed the border into Moldova to save their lives.
“The Republic of Moldova deserves the gratitude of the International Community for the reception and security it has offered to refugees. The United States will do everything possible to help Moldova with the assistance it provides to these people who have already gone through so much.
The Biden administration has asked Congress to approve a $ 2.75 billion humanitarian assistance fund for the needs of people in Ukraine or other countries to help manage the crisis. The international community has a responsibility to help Moldova manage this impact of the war and to spread this message to other international bodies.
I want to thank on behalf of the American people for all that the Republic of Moldova has done for Ukrainian refugees, “said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“Moldova has chosen the path of democracy, inclusive economy, rapprochement with European institutions. The United States will support Moldova on this path, in accordance with the principle of neutrality enshrined in its Constitution. We strongly support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and the status of neutrality enshrined in the Constitution, “Blinken added.
At the same time, the senior US diplomat said that many countries are making a great effort to help refugees, but “the biggest burden is on neighboring countries, the first to respond to this crisis.”
“You have seen our response to the mobilization of the international community in response to Russia’s aggression. Wherever and whenever the aggression is repeated, we will do the same, “Blinken added.
“We will continue to help those who fled the war. It is, however, a difficult task, which is why I have asked for international assistance. We are trying to build a mechanism to help those who want to go to other European countries to move on, “said Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova.
