30 kilometers of swimming in a swimming pool in Dijon for amputee children
A great sporting challenge for a good cause accomplished this Saturday by two Burgundian swimmers. Originating fromAppoigny near Auxerre, Ghislain Vachette (30 years old) and Quentin Merat (29) both swam 30 kilometers in the Carrousel swimming pool in Dijon. The two athletes spent half the day in the water, with a departure at 8 am and an arrival at 8 pm, after dark.
Behind the idea, Ghislain Vachette wanted to collect donations for Blades of Joy Association which supplies carbon blades to child amputees.
The goal: to allow everyone to play sports, thanks to the purchase of carbon blades. The prices are high: a blade costs at least 2,000 euros, up to 8,000 – 10,000 euros maximum if the child is amputated above the knee. A substantial cost, especially since a blade is changed approximately every two years.
“The idea is that this challenge goes back to the parents” emphasizes Ghislain Vachette who hopes “help Burgundy children“by his sporting challenge.

Highlight of the day, Ghislain Vachette and Quentin Merat shared lengths with Gérard Brigant, a swimmer from Dijon who had his left leg amputated.
The program was respected to the letter: the two swimmers did their lengths from morning to evening, in a 50-meter outdoor pool. To achieve the goal, the distance has been fragmented in blocks of ten, eight or six kilometers with 30-minute breaks.
To mark the occasion, Ghislain Vachette decided to leave the donation campaign open until March 30. To donate, go to the Leetchi platform “Swim 30KM to Give Wings.”
