Budapest Airport: Complete tranquility at the airport
There is complete tranquility at Liszt Ferenc International Airport; the flights depart and arrive according to the schedule, and the passenger processes also take place in the usual order at Budapest Airport, Budapest Airport wrote in its statement.
Due to the airspace blockade over Ukraine and Moldova and the flight restrictions above it, flights to Ukraine will continue to be available, as will flights to and from Russian destinations in Russia.
The suspended flights affect 5 Ukrainian and 6 Russian airports, with a total of 35 flights. The flights bypass the airspace of Ukraine, Moldova and Russia and run on the Romania-Bulgaria-Turkey route. Passengers at Budapest Airport encounter the usual passenger processes at the airport; the conflict in Ukraine does not affect flights to other cities at all.
According to the communication from Ukraine, the stay, handling and removal of refugees at the airport requires special rules and procedures, therefore Budapest Airport, together with the Airport Police Directorate, will develop the processes, infrastructure and care that will provide predictability, services and security for refugees. and does not interfere with normal passenger traffic at the airport.
From Monday, Budapest Airport will handle most of the refugees arriving at the airport in an organized manner and in groups at Terminal 1. Over the past 5 days, more than 4,000 refugees from Ukraine have traveled from Terminal 1 on a total of 21 flights, co-organized with embassies, including India, Morocco, Ecuador and Israel, for which the airport operator and the authorities have provided all support.
Budapest Airport provides food and drink for all passengers during the waiting period, and if necessary, more than 70 volunteers help them stay at the airport and provide them with a smooth supply.
Refugees arriving individually and wishing to travel by Budapest on commercial flights usually leave Terminal 2, where they are supported by Budapest Airport’s volunteer and terminal information colleagues, as well as the airport police.
In many cases, they need help buying a ticket, providing other information they need to travel, and picking up with relief organizations, finding accommodation, temporary accommodation, or special care, they wrote.
