Riolo regrets the dismissal of Kovac
Daniel Riolo wonders about the choice of Monegasque leaders to replace Niko Kovac in January. He thinks they rushed.
On RMC Sports, the journalist gave his analysis of the situation at AS Monaco. He thinks the Monegasques made a questionable choice replacing Niko Kovac with Philippe Clément: “Today Monaco are ninth in Ligue 1 and I’m not sure they can win the Europa League. The leaders changed coaches, passing an extremely harsh judgment on Kovac and saying to themselves: “We are changing quickly because we have to save the end of the season, because we believe that the new coach will be able to bring us back to the podium.” However, Monaco has just lost in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, they are ninth in the standings, eight points from the podium.he noted.
“We had to keep him until the end of the season”
He thinks this decision weighs on the Monegasque season: “The choice of leaders will still be analyzed, we are far from a good calculation. (…) Just before being fired, Kovac was in a good dynamic. There were two or three players who said he was too authoritarian and that he made them work too much. Ben Yedder? You don’t make a decision just because one of your star players complains about the coach. We had to keep him until the end of the season. Besides, his departure surprised us all. And I remind you that people in the staff learned about it in the media”he added.
ASM is currently at 9and position in the Ligue 1 standings, tied on points with OL. Europe is at 5 points.
