MHMP: Prague has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague

A memorandum of mutual cooperation between the capital city of Prague and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) was signed today on the premises of the City of Prague. m of Prague. By signing, both parties confirmed their interest in mutual cooperation, both in the field of development of cultural and creative industries and in exhibition and educational projects. Already last Monday, the memorandum itself was approved by Prague councilors.
“UMPRUM is one of the most important universities in the capital. Since 1885, when it was founded, they have gone through, whether as students or educators, top architects, designers and other creators. Some of them even directly affect the appearance of the city. In Prague, new public transport shelters are being installed according to the design of the Olchoj studio, which is connected with the current management of the Product Design Studio. I am looking forward to other projects that have been created in Prague thanks to the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, “says the mayor of the capital city of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib.
“Our cooperation with the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design has been going on for a long time. With this memorandum, we want to confirm cooperation at the formal level in the future, because for Prague, its urban design and visual appearance, the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague is one of the key educational institutions in general, ”says Vít Šimral, Prague’s councilor for education.
The cooperation between the capital and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague mainly concerns the Living Zone project, which is focused on improving the environment and public space in Prague. Designers from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, for example, design sanitary facilities in the streets of Prague, as well as security barriers, but they also contribute to improving the city’s climate by designing so-called thermal islands. In addition, the university often acts as a guarantor for Prague in the areas of architecture and design. For example, UMPRUM representatives tend to be members of various juries in competitions announced by the capital.
“We cooperate with various industrial companies or with the Czech National Bank, the State Printing House of Securities and many other entities. However, our partners are also municipalities and the capital city of Prague comes first. The cooperation so far has been more informal, so now I am glad that it is getting me to sign the memorandum itself. We are very pleased that the memorandum will contribute to the further improvement of our cooperation, “adds the Rector of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague Jindřich Vybíral.
The Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design is one of the most important educational institutions in the Czech Republic focusing on artistic work in the field of painting, sculpture, illustration and graphics, architecture, clothing, textile, product and graphic design, writing and typology, photography, ceramics and porcelain. The school is divided into the Department of Architecture, Design, Liberal Arts, Applied Arts, Graphics and the Department of Theory and History of Art. The individual departments are further divided into studios according to their professional specialization, led by renowned personalities of the Czech art scene.
