FC Zurich under increased pressure
Super League – FC Zürich will continue their winning streak in the 24th round against a recovered FC Luzern. After the win against Basel, the Super League leader has to face increased pressure.
So far, FC Zurich has avoided talking about the championship title for understandable reasons. After all, the competition from Bern and Basel is probably better equipped individually for the long way through the Super League. Even after the impressive 4:2 win against FCB on Sunday, FCZ were stacked rather low. There was talk of a relatively large lead in the Letzigrund, but also of a lot of points still to be awarded.
Should Zurich lose its footing, the lead can quickly melt away. Only: So far nothing indicates that. André Breitenreiter’s team travels to Lucerne with a record of 13 wins and 2 draws from the last 15 games. The coming days with the English week and the parties on Wednesday evening in Lucerne and on Saturday in Lausanne are also a kind of maturity test for FCZ. Can he muster the necessary mix of tension and calm to clinch two mandatory victories after the prestige win against Basel?
FC Zurich has one advantage over the competition. His personnel situation is much more relaxed because there are fewer injuries and fewer newcomers. In Lucerne, where a game without corona restrictions is taking place for the first time in two years, only Akaki Gogia is expected to be missing. Compared to the game against Basel, top scorer Assan Ceesay is back.
Lausanne desperately needs points
In the second game on Wednesday, Sion and bottom team Lausanne meet two teams that urgently need a win. After seven defeats in a row, the Vaud are only one bankruptcy away from their negative record in the Super League.
