Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – After moving taxes in 2021, Lufthansa is heading for new turbulence. Instead of a brilliant restart after the Corona lull, Europe’s aviation group with the highest turnover now has to deal with the consequences of the Russian attack on Ukraine. The closure of Russian airspace means direct revenue losses due to the lost destinations in Russia and Ukraine, as well as high additional costs on the rerouted connections to the Far East.
Head chef Carsten Spohr will present the balance sheet for 2021 again this Thursday (7 a.m.), which the board member should have closed with a loss in the billions. During the period, the MDax group was also able to repay the German state aid, save considerable costs and increase the number of flights reduced by Corona again. The freight subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo is already heading for a record profit of more than one billion euros after the third quarter. The restructuring negotiations with the pilots and the question of whether Lufthansa can join Alitalia’s successor ITA are unresolved.
