Toulouse ZFE: opponents still want to weigh
Gathered in a collective, the opponents of the ZFE, in particular the bikers who had had in November, still hope to be heard.
Professionals, such as mechanics, or individuals, such as car and motorcycle clubs, the ZFE 31 interclub brings together around thirty structures and federates the opposition to the Toulouse Low Emissions Zone, or, more precisely, since the collective says share the objective of reducing pollution, the opposition to its application. On November 6, 500 bikers crossed the ring road. Since then, the collective has remained active in defending a good number of demands which are as many exemptions from the ban on circulars. On February 18, before François Chollet, vice-president of the Metropolis, the opponents had confirmation that the Metropolis would not grant an exemption in the evening and at night and would not exclude the western portion of the ring road.
However, “the consultation continues”, advances Agnès Grillou, one of the spokespersons, who wants to believe that it is possible to gain ground on two subjects: two and three wheels (which she could see exempted), and leisure use (which allows currently unauthorized vehicles to travel outside peak hours).
On the first point, the spokesperson affirms that the Climate and Resilience law does not mention two and three wheels and that these would therefore have escaped the ZFE. For François Chollet, the law sets “a minimum framework” and the Metropolis, which is “in excess”, “has taken the decision to involve all users”. The legal service of the Metropolis as of the Federation of angry bikers will still look into this subject.
However, the Metropolis wants to show a certain goodwill. On February 10, it voted for a wish to institute a “small wheeler” status for old vehicles that are little used. But it is to the government that it turns for this relaxation.
