Prague Airport: Air traffic will be moved to a secondary runway for three months due to maintenance
01.03.2022 20:18 | Press Release
Air traffic at Prague Airport will again be transferred to the secondary runway for three months on 30 December. From March 28 to July 1, it will perform scheduled maintenance and delayed repairs on the main runway 06/24 and related areas. He will also move to the side runway via a webcam, thanks to which the online transmission from Prague Airport will not be interrupted.
The secondary track will be in operation in its full length of 3250 m. On the main track, experts will perform technical and construction activities related to increasing traffic safety. “In addition to regular maintenance, there will be an important reconstruction of taxiway B leading to the runway and an increase in the capacity of part of the cableway for lighting security of the runways.
“We are aware that the use of side runways will inappropriately increase aircraft traffic over densely populated parts of Prague and Kladno, but the only system solution in the future is the implementation of the parallel runway project,” says Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Prague Airport.
The necessary further modifications to the main runways are related to the operational safety requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The direction of traffic (departure in the direction of Prague or Kladno) depends on the current meteorological conditions, especially wind. However, the preferred direction is to land from Prague and take off for Kladno.
