For Wuppertaler SV the game continues on Tuesday (March 1st, 7:30 p.m.). The Lower Rhine Cup Round of 16 is then on. For the WSV it goes to SC Velbert.
After two initial defeats – against Rot-Weiss Essen (1:2) and Fortuna Cologne (0:1) – he was able to Wuppertal SV clinched their first win of 2022 in a 2-0 win in Homberg last weekend.
“That was important. Also for the minds of the lads. Unfortunately, there was always a little lacking in the top games. It was also tight against Homberg, but that was also clear. They are a good fighting team. We put up a fight and won.” , sums up the head of sport Stefan Kuster.
Our goal is to win the Lower Rhine Cup again in order to generate good income and give Wuppertaler SV a DFB Cup highlight.

In the win in Duisburg-Homberg, however, the WSV lost a player. Valdet Rama got it. At first the injury looked bad. “He was lucky in his misfortune. It’s ‘just’ his nose through. He also has an enlargement over his eye. That’s a good tennis ball. But it’s getting better every day. Maybe he can put a mask on us Help for a few days, but he’s out for the Velbert game,” said Küsters.
This week will coach Bjorn Mehnert staying in Frankfurt up to and including Wednesday. The soccer teacher course has started. Nevertheless, Mehnert will travel from Frankfurt to Velbert in the evening to be with the team. And after the game he WILL go back to Hesse. “This also shows how important the game is for us,” says Küsters.
On Tuesday (7:30 p.m., RevierSport-Liveticker) the WSV will solve the Niederrheinpokal quarterfinal ticket. The opponent: Oberliga SC Velbert. “It’s a small derby without spectators and the game will be played on artificial turf. Unfamiliar terrain for us, but it’s also clear that the cup is all about progressing and we definitely want that again! Our goal is to win the Niederrheinpokal to generate good income and give Wuppertaler SV a DFB Cup highlight,” said Küsters.
As a reminder: Wuppertaler SV defeated SV Straelen in the final in 2021 and is the current defending champion in the Lower Rhine Cup.
