War in Ukraine: Prague 6 I will provide accommodation for families, school children
The town hall has set aside several flats for refugees. “The first family arrived last night (Sunday) and we have three of its members accommodated,” said Mayor Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09). The mayor subsequently announced a fundraiser for the refugees. “People who came here have virtually nothing. I would like to ask you to choose at least some symbolic beginning among ourselves and helped them overcome the first few days, “he added.
The city district will help refugee families with the care of children for whom it wants to allocate free capacity in the morning in basic art schools. Psychologists and staff will also be available to help children with the language barrier. According to Councilor Marta Kubíková (ODS), schools are also ready to hold humanitarian collections.
According to the mayor, the leadership of the Ukrainian city of Khmelnytsky approached the town hall on Monday night with a request for humanitarian aid. “We will also address the public, I think that the city district has enough resources to comply with this request,” said Kolář.
The deputies also decided to end cooperation with the Vasileostrov district in St. Petersburg. According to them, it is not possible to cooperate with a city from a country whose government has invaded a sovereign state.
Prague 6 will further increase the crisis reserve fund by CZK 40 million to CZK 111 million. Councilors will be able to decide on measures related to Ukraine up to 15 million crowns based on the decision of the council. The action will coordinate the working group.
Street renaming
At the beginning of the meeting, the representative Libor Bezděk (STAN) suggested to include the material used by the town hall will call on the municipality to rename the Coronation in the territory of Prague 6 to the Ukrainian Heroes and the bridge over the railway after the Ukrainian engineer Vitali Skakun. Both proposals were accepted by the deputies. Local names are approved by the municipal topographical commission and subsequently by the capital city council.
Russia’s attack on Ukraine has been condemned by cross-party representatives. According to Deputy Mayor Jan Lacina (STAN), it does not hurt at all levels of public administration to name who is the aggressor and who is the victim. Deputy Andrew Chrast (Pirates) then said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his clique are criminals. “Putin is a criminal who can’t believe a word and who started killing people,” Chrást said.
Representative Martin Polách (YES) apologized to the town hall management that two years ago he criticized its action in removing the statue of Marshal Konev and considered it too theatrical. “I apologize and I’m glad it was done,” he said.
