This is sent by weapons from the West to Ukraine – VG
Fighter jets, ammunition, anti-tank missiles and other weapon systems are on their way to Ukraine from the USA, Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden and other countries. Emphasis is placed on healthy deliveries to help the invading country defend itself.
Fighter jets from the EU are on their way to Ukraine, according to senior adviser Alexandre Krauss in the EU Parliament. The planes are part of the arms package announced by the EU on Sunday.
– The planes are in Ukrainian airspace before some time, Krauss wrote Twitter Sunday evening.
Ukraine must have asked to fly as they know from before, and according to experts, it is probably the delivery of the Russian-produced models Mig-29, which is still found in Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria.
Bulgaria also has several aircraft of models Sukhoj Su-25, which also knows the Ukrainian Air Force.
Weapon package from the EU
On Sunday evening, EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell also announced that the EU will deliver weapons worth 450 million euros, close to 4.5 billion kroner, to Ukraine.
As part of the package, he mentioned fighter jets from the EU.
– We even have to get fighter jets. We are not just talking about ammunition. We are providing more important weapons for the war, he said at a press conference.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had previously told the EU that Ukraine “needs the type of fighter jets that the Ukrainian army is capable of using, and some member states have this type of aircraft,” according to Borrell.
The Danish government has decided to send 2,700 anti-tank weapons of the type M72 EC LAW (Enhanced Capability Light Antitank Weapon) to Ukraine. The Danish Armed Forces bought the weapon from the Raufoss-based company Nammo in 2018, according to the Danish Ministry of Defense.
– It is a relatively new purchase from the Armed Forces. These are some of the weapons that the Armed Forces themselves use as light anti-tank weapons, says defense analyst Mads Korsager Nielsen to Danmarks Radio (DR).
The Norwegian-produced anti-tank weapon must also be so easy to handle that it lasts with a short introductory course. The Danish Armed Forces has previously referred to the weapon as a single-shot shoulder-fired 66 millimeter anti-tank weapon – which is easy to operate and transport. The weapon is a disposable weapon that is discarded when used.
Produced by Norwegian Nammo
The Norwegian-based weapons manufacturer Nammo with headquarters at Raufoss, do not want to say anything about using their weapons in Ukraine.
– We do not want to comment on this, simply because we lack an overview of how and to what extent weapons and products from Nammo are sent to Ukraine, says press contact Thorstein Korsvold in Nammo to VG.
However, he can confirm that the Norwegian-based weapons manufacturer has manufactured the anti-tank weapons M72 and BDM which are made available from Denmark and the USA for the Ukrainian defense, respectively.
From the Norwegian side, the government is hesitant to deliver weapons. The government will meet the Storting’s expanded foreign affairs committee on Monday evening. There, it is expected that the issue of Norwegian arms contributions to Ukraine will be the theme. Several opposition parties have called for a Norwegian arms contribution.
Our neighboring country Denmark also donates parts from 300 Stinger missiles, which were actually to be discarded, to the USA – with a view to making the rockets operational there.
At a press conference this weekend where Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced the Danish arms support, she said the seriousness of the situation.
– It is the first time in recent times that Denmark donates weapons to a country at war, said the Prime Minister and added that this is an important decision in principle.
Sweden, which is known as a neutral country outside NATO, chooses to support Ukraine with 5,000 armor shots, 5,000 body shields and 135,000 filtrations.
Norwegian ammunition
On Saturday night, Germany also decided to break a long tradition of not sending weapons to conflict zones. The country approved the export of 400 German-produced rocket launchers – sent from the Netherlands to Ukraine. Germany also decided to send 500 Stinger rockets and 1,000 anti-tank weapons to the country.
As early as February 18, it announced Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs that they planned to send military equipment to Ukraine. Listen to, among other things, 100 sniper rifles and 30,000 rounds of ammunition.
Well, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that parts of this ammunition are Norwegian-made.
Britain’s Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace organized his Friday and donors’ conference on military aid to Ukraine.
NATO must have been represented at the conference, which was held digitally. A total of 27 nations were the only ones to contribute.
The support includes military supplies in the form of ammunition, armor-piercing weapons and anti-aircraft guns, and medical supplies.
According to Sky News donor countries must be able to reach Ukraine with supplies. Several of the countries that have now said they are willing to contribute, which have previously been opposed, but changed their minds after Russia invaded the neighboring country.
Heavy support from the United States
Latvia has already decided to send weapons from the air defense system Stinger to Ukraine, confirms Vita Brize in the Latvian Ministry of Defense above. DR News.
Ukraine will receive an additional $ 350 million in military assistance from the United States in the fight against Russia, with Foreign Minister Antony Blinken this weekend.
The amount corresponds to just over 3 billion kroner.
“This package includes additional” lethal defensive assistance “to help Ukraine deal with armored threats, airstrikes and other threats, Blinken described in a statement.
Blinken also said that US President Joe Biden this fall approved $ 60 million in immediate military assistance, and another $ 200 million for Ukraine in December.
So now the third package of American weapons is coming to Ukraine, which means that the United States has given a total of over a billion dollars in security assistance to Ukraine over the past year, according to Blinken.
He will not go into detail about what kind of weapon it is.
Norway, for its part, has refrained from contributing weapons to Ukraine.
“We have assessed the listening that Ukraine has handed down, and today we decided to provide military equipment such as helmets, life jackets and other equipment that is needed when an adult male population has to defend the country,” said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at a press conference on Sunday.
He added that they will have close contact with another country and assess whether Norway should possibly make further contributions.
