MÁV has extended free travel to all refugees
With a free solidarity ticket, you can start your journey at any train station, change your destination at the time of ticket exchange and prove your Ukrainian citizenship with an identity card or passport, writes the MÁV.
The railway company will help the refugees to travel with special trains, the next relief flight will start from Záhony in the evening – via Nyíregyháza, Debrecen and Szolnok – to the Western Railway Station.
Due to the increasing situation, the solidarity ticket introduced at Saturday midnight was extended by MÁV-Start from Monday afternoon, so it is valid not only from Záhony station, but can also be exchanged for domestic trains departing from any railway station.
However, with the solidarity ticket, only Ukrainian citizens can travel free of charge from all domestic railway stations. Free travel is subject to proof of Ukrainian citizenship with an identity card or passport when exchanging tickets. With the ticket you can only use second-class cars, you do not have to buy a high-speed train ticket on surcharge trains.
The solidarity ticket can be used on trains with a seat, mainly in the seats left free in the extra cars. The exemption is also valid for international trains to other foreign destinations via Hungary to the Hungarian border station. The railway company issued a free solidarity ticket to thousands of refugees from Ukraine on Sunday, since they were able to travel from Záhony to all destinations in Hungary, the announcement reads.
MÁV-Start will launch trains, mainly from Záhony, Debrecen, to Budapest with an extra car, as passenger traffic on domestic trains from Záhony to Budapest has also increased.
