Ukraine church service: “Putin is a sadistically sick person”
In the Sint Nicolaaskerk on the Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam it was a different Sunday than usual. The service was dedicated to the war in Ukraine. There were prayers and visitors could light candles for the people of Ukraine.
Dozens of people gathered at the church today to show solidarity to Ukrainians. An Amsterdam citizen with Polish nationality thinks it is necessary to develop Ukraine: “People should show solidarity and stop saying Putin is a sick person, a sadistically sick person.”
Emiel de Sévrèn Jacquet, the consul of Ukraine, was also there. He also believes it is important to show solidarity: “The prayers are also heard in Ukraine.
Deputy Mayor Rutger Groot Wassink was also present at the service: “As Amsterdam, we can only show solidarity with Ukraine. I think we should do what we can do, for example if people flee here think about what we can do to receive them. ”
The consul speaks every day with people from Ukraine: “Yesterday I spoke to an employee of ours who looks out the window and just sees a rocket flying into an apartment building, where families live.” Documentary maker Roy Dames is also in close contact with residents of Ukraine: “People are dazed on the street, they are in shock.”
“Don’t be afraid and just send orders. Freedom is at stake”
The Polish woman is worried about her motherland: “I’m afraid because Putin will continue after Ukraine. And the next victim could also be Poland.” De Sévrèn Jacquet also thinks Putin will not stop at Ukraine: “If Ukraine is actually more, what will happen next?Poland?Lithuania? It is an extremely important moment, also for the future of Europe.
According to Dames, there is one solution: “Don’t be afraid and just send instructions. Just confront it, no matter how scary it is. It’s really terrible but it’s the freedom that is at stake.”
