Sberbank CZ: Vandalism and a shocking message! The CNB’s license has begun steps to withdraw
The CNB issued a preliminary measure preventing the bank from handling its assets and liabilities, including granting new loans and accepting deposits. The bank informed about it in a press release.
“The liquidity crisis of Sberbank CZ was caused by external, geopolitical developments. This is an isolated banking and specific problem of the bank, which is not significant from the point of view of the domestic sector. It thus remains one of the most robust and stable in Europe, “said CNB Governor Jiří Rusnok.
Sberbank CZ is facing an outflow of clients in the Czech Republic in connection with the war in Ukraine. Already last week, large queues formed in front of the branches, and many people came to terminate the contract and transfer their funds elsewhere. The bank then unexpectedly closed the branches at 2:00 p.m. “Unfortunately, there were security issues at our branches. Our employees are mostly citizens of the Czech Republic and it is necessary to ensure increased security protection, because we must continue with physical attacks, “said Sberbank spokeswoman Radka Černá.
Vandalism
Several branches in Prague were still targeted by vandals on Friday evening. In Prague’s Lazarská Street, someone first spray-painted the bank’s shop window and then smashed it. “We are dealing with the case, evaluating camera recordings and searching for the perpetrators,” Prague police spokeswoman Violeta Siřišťová told Blesk, adding that the case was being investigated as damage to someone else’s property.
Another similar case took place at the Sberbank branch in Karel Engliš Street in Prague 5, where the vandal also used a spray – he sprayed a huge red sign “Putin – the killer” on the shop window. An unknown man also broke into the same bank in the afternoon and sprayed pepper spray. “The police are also dealing with this case,” said Siřišťová, adding that it was an offense against civil cohabitation, the perpetrator has not yet been found.

Shocking message
In addition, a shocking message from the outside appeared at the bank’s branch in Lazarská Street: “Sometimes we just can’t avoid change. We would like to inform you that with effect from March 1, 2022, we are starting to close down the branches of Sberbank CZ, ss, due to the moral liquidation of the majority founder and majority owner of our company, which is the Russian National Bank. Deposits from our clients that will not be transferred or withdrawn to this data, fail in favor of killing innocent people in Ukraine,Says the announcement.
A coalition of NeBoj, Food not bombs and the Anarchist Federation then joined the report. “We decided to show what the Russian Sberbank really is. Through the modified logo and amended leaflets of the bank, we inform the bank’s clients in several cities in the Czech Republic with whom they deposit their money, “they said on Facebook.
The branches remained closed on Mondays, and card transactions and internet banking did not work either. “I am very sorry for the situation now facing our clients, business partners and employees. Despite close cooperation with our shareholder, we have unfortunately not been able to continue to provide services to our clients in full mode, “said Marijana Vasilescuová, Director of the Board of Directors and CEO of Sberbank CZ. Deposits of bank clients, including Sberbank, are legally insured up to 100,000 euros (approximately 2.5 million crowns) for one depositor at one bank or credit union.
