Prosecutors, Rossi runs beyond Florence to Siena and Ancona: here his era ends
Arezzxo, February 27, 2022 – The candidacy for the Florence prosecutor’s office (serious, he really is a potential candidate, even if the race is just starting and there are many obstacles) is a bit of a symbol of the sunset of a season. Yes, the long period (25 years, since 1997) in which Roberto Rossi was the most prominent figure among the public prosecutors of Arezzo is coming to an end, first as a top substitute under the prosecutors Ennio Di Cicco and Carlo Maria Scipione, then (from 2013, initially as regent) as chief prosecutor himself, for eight years, interrupted by the sensational degradation that CSM inflicted on him for the Boschi affair, then canceled by law by the council of state.
And in the meantime, two new prosecutors, young men and women, from Cosenza and Syracuse are about to arrive in a prosecutor’s office that is already preparing for the post-Rossi period, with the staff having grown by a unit for the revision of the tables. But let’s get back to Rossi. His mandate, strictly speaking, should have ended in 2022, eight years after the nomination voted by the CSM, then unanimously, in 2014.
However, there is the hole in the period in which the prosecutor was demoted to a simple substitute, six months between October 2019 and April 2020 which now theoretically extend the tenure of the magistrate originally from Assisi but now adopted by Arezzo. . Theoretically, precisely, because for some months Roberto Rossi has been looking around, looking for another managerial position that will allow him to continue his career.
And before his mandate at the courthouse expires, an eventuality that would see him demoted to a simple substitute. He asked the first question again in 2021 for the position of chief prosecutor of Siena, also a position for which he is among the favorites if not the favorite. Rossi is also a candidate for the general prosecutor of Ancona. Florence is the third option, obviously the most coveted. These are all places on which the CSM will decide in the coming months, before or after the summer.
It is therefore likely that Rossi will go elsewhere before completing his second four-year term (no longer renewable) at the courthouse. Where, he will depend on the intersections between the aspirants, even if his remains a strong curriculum. In short, on the top floor of the Garbasso it is already time to take stock and it is easy to say that few prosecutors like the current prosecutor have had an impact on the judicial history, and not only judicial, in Arezzo.
It is enough to recall the maxi-investigation of Variantopoli, which took the beheading of a center-right municipal administration, that of Luigi Lucherini, and the early elections, between 2005 and 2006. A sensational investigation now repeated by the Coingas case, whose trial comes alive on Tuesday and sees once again a mayor and a center-right political power under accusation.
Nor should we forget the sentence, later confirmed in cassation, that Rossi obtained for a story of national significance like that of Martina, and the monstrous investigation for the Etruria crash. Indeed, that was the case that cost him the lightning from the CSM. Violation of independence, albeit from a subjective point of view, accused Pier Camillo Davigo, for the position of consultant at Palazzo Chigi in full was Renzi.
But the dates did not return and the contents did not even as the council of state concluded. Poisons that could now re-emerge in the race in Florence, where the Open investigation is on Renzi. The prosecutor, however, will have time to dare to welcome his new prosecutors: Emanuela Greco, 44, from Cosenza, and Francesca Eva, 36, Florentine by origin, working in Syracuse. The CSM has not yet voted on the transfers, but they are already discounted.
