Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine on February 24, protests have taken place every day in the Czech Republic, during which people not only in Prague but also in other cities across the country express their support for Ukraine and condemn the actions of the Russian Federation. It is no different on Sunday.
From 1 pm, protests by Russians living in the Czech Republic who do not agree with the conflict in Ukraine took place in Boris Němcová Square in front of the Russian embassy. After about half an hour, it ended and people began to move to Wenceslas Square, where another demonstration started at 2 p.m.
The event We stand behind Ukraine 2 is organized by the Association of Millions of Moments for Democracy and thousands of tens of thousands of people gathered there. According to the organizers of the event, there were at least 60,000 people on Wenceslas Square around three o’clock in the afternoon. Several celebrities appeared in the protests.
For example, the singer Tomáš Klus, who composed the composition for Ukraine, performed on the stage. The Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) or the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Yevhen Perebyjnis also spoke to the people.
“Ukraine has endured another difficult night. This night has really been very difficult for everyone, for Ukrainian defenders, soldiers, civilians. Thanks to our state soldiers and civilians, I am convinced that the whole nation will win. Unfortunately, a lot of people have said why they have to help us. “We need the help of friends like the Czech Republic to win. Ukraine values this very much,” said Perebyjnis.
He expressed his hope that Ukraine would one day become part of the European Union and participate in building a democratic Europe. “Ukraine is not Russia, we do not want to be Russia,” the ambassador said.
“We are helping and we will help as long as it is needed,” Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) said at the demonstration. “We must not accept that Russian tanks will come to some country and break the peace. Glory to Ukraine!” he called.
