Index – Domestic – Budapest provides accommodation for refugees
The Budapest Municipality provides temporary accommodation for refugees, and thus also for those who otherwise spend the night on the street, the Budapest Mayor’s Office said.
A reception facility for the first hundred people has opened, currently housing 41 people, including many children.
The capital can provide accommodation and meals for almost two thousand refugees if needed. The operational tribe of the capital assigned the most important tasks to its institutions and companies:
- the provision of accommodation that can be included in the care of refugees, which includes the properties owned by the Municipality of Budapest, the services that can be provided by the institutions of the capital, and, if necessary, the resorts owned by the capital;
- providing three meals a day if necessary;
- receiving and directing people fleeing the war at transport hubs;
- maintaining and ensuring the order of passenger traffic in the transport hubs.
The reception and care of refugees is primarily a state task. However, the Metropolitan Municipality is ready to use its available resources to help supply refugees arriving in the capital due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
