War in Ukraine: FdI motion to the Siena City Council
In the document, the city’s governing body undertakes to liaise with the government to continue condemning the violent action perpetrated by Russia
SIENA. Fratelli d’Italia, in the person of the group leader Maurizio Forzoni, presented a motion for the Siena City Council regarding the war in Ukraine.
Below is the text of the motion filed:
Awarded that
the Ukrainian crisis of these hours, which is arousing great apprehension and anguish in the international community, represents one of the most dramatic events in the recent history of Europe;
the invasion of Ukraine takes place in defiance of the fundamental values of our constitution which repudiates all as an instrument of offense to the freedom of peoples and as a means of resolving international disputes;
similarly, the unilateral act of aggression by Russia against Ukraine takes place in disregard of international law, as a means of resolving legal conflicts;
it is necessary for the international community to react in proportionate terms to the offense to protect the independence and inviolability of Ukraine;
in the same way, it is a duty that Italian politics unanimously prepare a political and economic line aimed at preserving national interests from the inevitable economic repercussions that the Russian-Ukrainian war will entail;
nevertheless, it is necessary to intervene in terms of international cooperation to avert the foreseeable humanitarian catastrophe affecting the Ukrainian civilian population;
all that being said
The Municipal Council of Siena commits the Italian Government
-to condemn damages with every measure and in every international forum the unilateral military aggression perpetuated against Ukraine;
to request that Europe and the Member States coordinate a humanitarian intervention for the reception of Ukrainian refugees following the war that is afflicting the population;
-to request European intervention aimed at creating a fund to contain economic compensation mechanisms to rebalance the means that individual European nations will suffer for the sanctions imposed on Russia and the consequent counter-sanctions;
– to create a control room as a representation of energy-intensive companies and the governance of energy giants (ENI – ENEL) for solutions and proposals useful to stem the catastrophic economic effects that are determined by the crisis in energy supply by Russia;
– to intervene promptly by increasing the current expenditure for the deployment of international military forces, guaranteeing 2 per cent of the financial maneuvers for NATO allocations;
-to guarantee the status of refugees in a timely manner to Ukrainian citizens who request them.
